    AIt is hard to say which one is better. As to control and efficency, the idea of SDN is good. For expansion and globalization, it is not good compared to TCP/IP. TCP/IP internet was built for quite a long time and are still growing rapidly at the moment. TCP/IO is not perfect, but still get evolving.

    A Openflow now seems to be the most accepted protocol that defines the SDN concept. Openflow is developed by ONF and is constantly being updated by the community.

    A这只是Openflow的要求,并不是SDN的要求。而实际上,目前很多厂商,包括某些标准组织都没有刻意去追求硬件转发面的标准化,尽管有些人确实在做这个工作,但至少这不是所有人的共识。哪怕是Openflow的标准组织ONF,目前也在考虑一种折衷方案

    A SDN function is supported in our QorIQ product line. QorIQ product line with the DPAA is able to accelerate the operation required to implmenet Openflow protocol. Some actions like table lookup, traffic parcing, and QoS are offloaded to hardware engine to improve overall performance.

    A Not necessary. Some companies thought some parts of the networks don’t need to be updated with SDN technology, such as the core network which is adequately provisioned already for near-term increases in traffic. Both the carrier edge and data center networks, however, need to be redesigned for improved flexibility, given the lack of visibility into the future mix of applications or the growth in workloads. Scalability remains a significant challenge.

    AFreescale provides silicon solution for SDN applications. We don't sell SDN end products. So our software development kit is open for any high level API.

    ANo particular HW is needed, but a network chip with security offload feature is better. The OPENFLOW protocol (used in SDN) can be impemented in software. However, openflow uses SSL encryption method. A network chip with security offload function can speed up the traffic processing.

If there is a break down of an important component, this must quickly be detected, and the fault corrected as soon as possible.

    AAs to the hardware cost, there's no big difference for SDN comparing with currrent networking equipments. However, However, with the SDN equipments being more modulized and more popular, the cost of each equipments can become lower. Besides, SDN can save a lot of efforts on management and maintenance. That might save a lot of costs on human resources.

    AFor engineers, they need to deal with many technical issues, hw or sw. They need to implement OPENFLOW protocol in their system and do many protocol tests. Especially, software is more important in implementing a SDN network than the legancy network.
