    ACloud computing applications could be a big beneficiary of software-defined networking and OpenFlow because these technologies make provisioning in a multi-vendor virtual environment much simpler. A controller-based load balancing application could automate the movement of workloads among virtual machines by using the controller's library of data about the capacity of individual network devices.    Much like virtualized network services appliances that are deployed on virtual machines, controller-based applications are more scalable, flexible, efficient and manageable than more conventional models that rely on physical devices to support functions.   From a service provider perspective, OpenFlow could also promote better service to the end user by allowing for optimization with less oversubscription.

To support 10G ethernet or even higher, to implement the physical layer is a big challenge. The MAC, PHY and switch for 10G-base support need high-performance CPU and more memory to process the packets efficently.

    A Freescale QorIQ series are adopted in many switch products for SDN market, like top-of-rack switches. We are working on getting more design wins on SDN controller and micro server applications, and we think we have very good opportunities to chieve the goals.

    A Freescale QorIQ products have very good roadmap. We have new high-end T series with dual-thread support and 28nm process for data center and SDN market. For low-end, we have LS series with embedded ARM core. The LS series have low power number, low cost and plenty of SW supports. It is easy to migrate to high end or cost down to low end products on selecting hardware platform. Besides, with our SDK support, the software migration can be easy for engineer as well.

    ANFV stands for network function virtualizations that virtualizes entire classes of function into building blocks that may be connected, or chained, together to create services. SDN is Software Defined Network which makes network backbone configurable and controllable in realtime.

    AThis depends on which i.MX product you are using. The product specification should have the performance number. To answer your MCU specific question, it is best to contact the freescale sales or  distributor and properly they can recommend a product that meet your require performance level.
