Car to car communication, Car to traffic sign communication and car to cloud communication will all be enablers for high level of automatous driving and time synchronization will not only impact feasibility, user experience but also human life or death.   Wrt time accuracy requirement for automatous driving apps, please refer to the appropriate standards.

    A   From optical communications such as PDH/SDH/SONET/OTN, to Ethernet networking with higher SLA, to today's 5G equipment like RU or DU, you would see 1PPS from Satellite, PTP, SyncE and local reference clock as close sources and there would be switching mechanism between them. Wrt switching, there would be holdover feature as well. Silabs’ solution supports hitless switching as well as holdover.  

  • Q临近设备之间的时间同步协议RFC1588之类,还需要经过核心网传送吗?那样要经过的节点不是太多了吗?能不能横向经过最少的设备节点呢?

    AYes, the goal here is to use the data plane (i.e. the link that is used to transmit data) to also transmit "time" information and to try to achieve time synchonization. Therefore, the number of nodes/hops and whether the nodes/hops in the middle is PTP aware or not will impact tiem accuracy. ITU-T G.8273.2 defines four classes of T-BC (Teleocm Boundry Clock, the nodes in the transmission path), Class A to D, with different time accuracy requriements, Class A is the easies to meet and Class D is the hardest. Currently, most of 5G equipments are trying to meet Class C, max 5 hops, each hops Max Time Error= 30ns.
