    A To be clear, MACOM does not make optical modules.   We provide all the components for our customer to design and make optical modules.   Your question about receiver sensitivity is related to our components like TIA and Photo-diodes.   We proivide  the one of the best performance TIA (Transimpediance Amplifiers) for data-center/acess/wireless front/back haul applications.  Many of our customer use our TIA's and matches well with many industries photo-diodes.

    A 背对准技术降低了产品组装生产的成本。从信号的波特率来判断。

  • QEFT技术只有贵司采用吗?主要的优势有哪些?价格高吗?

    A Yes, EFT laser technologies is a MACOM patented technologies that currently only MACOM can use.   Compare to traditional Cleaved Facet lasers.  It's advantages includes:  reduced manufacturing process steps, on-wafer level testing, higher yield laser facet using semi-conductor etching instead of mechancial cleaving process to define the laser facet.  This makes the overall cost of produce the laser lower then traditional cleaved lasers.

  • Q收发器的不同封装对于用户来说有何意义?所谓低成本是如何体现的?

    AOptical tranceiver has many different type of form factors.  Historically, trasponders are complex and provide Serialize/Deserialize functions.  As the linecard IC's integration became more and more integrated.  A lot of these digital conversion functions are moved to the linecard IC's.   In order to reduce cost, pluggable tranceiver will be more simple to provide O/E and E/O function and smaller.   A prime example is  the 10G 300-pin transponders in the early 2000's moving to 10G XFP in 2005's and 10G SFP in the 2007.     Also, advance technologies, like Silicon Photonics will integrated many electrical and photonics function into a single chip.  Our L-PIC platform is a primary example that we will drive the cost of 100G CWDM4 module down reduce the need to align lasers onto silicon PIC and increase yield.

    A Currently, we provide O-band range wavelength for LAN-WDM 1295,1300,1305,1310nm, and CWDM 1270,1290,1310,1330nm direct modulated lasers. (DML's).  

  • Q对于未来几年的发展,数据中心链路速度有极限瓶颈吗,对功率需求大不大

    A In the next five years, the data-center operator will continue their expansion of hyper scale data centers.  The reason the 400G is requried in the next few years for intra-data-center is that there is intra traffic bottlenecks.  service provider will be continusly doing upgrade to relief these bottlenecks.   The typical data center electricity usage will increase due to this higher speed requirements from todays 40G  to 100G then 400G. Typically Electricity usage of a data cneter is ~10% of total other usages today.   MACOM is attacking this power dissipation by providing solutions by going to advanced processor nodes.

    A 成倍差别要看整体方案。PAM4把光器件数量从4路降低到一路,在很大程度上降低了成本

  • QPAM-4解决方案中,光纤与交换芯片是配套的还是说可以使用通用的光纤?

    A 不要求配套。可以使用通用的光纤

  • Q封装形式对产品的提升也会有所影响吧?

    A Yes, Of course, the packaging technologies for higher frequencies i.e. 56Gbaud is getting critical which can greatly affect the performance of the product that the package is carefully chosen.

  • Q激光驱动器起到什么作用?

    A Simple defination of laser driver as a light switch which either turn on and turn off the lasing light going into the transmission medium i.e. fiber.

  • QPIC主要体现哪些方面的优势可以降低成本呢?

    A Photonic Integrated Circuits (PIC) reduces size and cost of component  by integrating many of the optical functions and connected them with electrical functions on the same semi-conductor process.   These O/E;E/O interface quantity required by data center interconnect is hitting the volume point where these traditional large scale semiconductor process will help reduce overall cost of the inter-connection and requried integration levels.

  • QEFT和SAEFT有什么区别?

    A EFT stands for Etched Facet Technology, it the process that MACOM's laser facet is defined. SAEFT stands for Self Aligned Etched Facet Technology.  It a patented process where the laser is passive aligned to the grating on the silicon photonics modulators.  

  • Q提及的DSP是MACOM专用的?是MACOM自己开发的吗?可否简单介绍一下该DSP?

    A The DSP mentioned in the webinar was developed by APM from the recent MACOM's acquisition of APM (Applied MicroCircuit Corporation.) the Digital Signal Processor provides all the Host to Line 100G or 4x100G interfaces for next generation 100G and 400G host line card interface CEI protocols, Tx Muxing, FEC, PAM4 Encoding, Equalization and Driving DAC. RX ADC, DSP, Demux etc.

    A Typically, the modulator driver data path is designed to work independently with indepednent controls I/O's.
